May 4 proclaimed ‘Mental Health and Dignity Day’
People in recovery from mental health disorders and their supporters are gathering Sunday, May 4, 2014, as a celebration of Mental Health Month. The event includes a March for Mental Health and Dignity in Shepherdstown at 6 p.m. at the Shepherdstown Train Station, 100 Audrey Egle. Bring a picnic and something to share. There will be a short march to City Hall with a candlelight vigil.
People are coming together to speak out about such grave concerns as H.R. 3717 the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act of 2013 which would destroy initiatives that use evidence-based, voluntary, peer-run services and family supports to help people diagnosed with serious mental illnesses to recover.

Mental Health and Dignity Day is now a national partner with Creating Community Solutions, which is supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the White House as a part of the National Dialogue on Mental Health.
