Margaret “Peggy” Grantham has been given the state award of volunteerism through the Good Shepherd Caregiver Association that helps the elderly in Jefferson County.

Grantham has been a resident of Shepherdstown for 83 years and has been with Good Shepherd for four years.

Grantham’s duties at her volunteer position includes making phone calls to check in with the clients who participate in the organization to make sure they do not need anything. She helps over 60 clients a month. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, she shared that she visits clients and is a source of transportation to those who need to go to doctor appointments, stores or other places. She also helps get them equipment as needed.

“Some of the clients enjoy my visits just because they need someone to talk to,” said Grantham.

Grantham got started in the organization partially by needing help to get into physical therapy, and as a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where a conference was held about Good Shepherd.

Grantham said, “I have learned a lot over my four years about people’s different personalities, they are really nice people and I like it a lot.”

Good Shepherd holds many fundraisers, such as dinners at the fire hall, raffles and tournaments. The annual Golf Classic is the next fundraiser to be held Friday May, 2 at Cress Creek Country Club. The fee is $125 per golfer and $30 dollars will be charitable. There will be door prizes and even a car give away with a hole-in-one.
