Summer events scheduled at Peter Burr House

By Staff | May 9, 2014

All events will be held from 10-1 at the Peter Burr House, 176 East Burr Blvd, Kearneysville.

May 10: Butter Making. Join us for a tutorial on 18th Century butter making. Guests will watch a demonstration, join in and then enjoy butter on bread freshly baked in the outdoor wood-burning oven.

June 14: Stories and Games Come out and play and then take a break and listen to stories under a shady tree. All visitors will be able to see what playtime was like in the 18th Century. Games will be demonstrated and then available to try. Enjoy light refreshments and listen to volunteers read popular children’s stories from the 1700s.

July 12: Men’s Day Out. A day to celebrate all the rugged manly tasks our 18th Century men do so well. Watch volunteers demonstrate wood working, black powder muskets, 18th century combat: the art of the duel and much more.

Aug. 9: In the Garden. Visit the 18th Century garden. A volunteer will give a tour of the garden and tell about what is grown and why. The garden isn’t just for beauty or eating, it also grows herbs for medicine. After a stroll in the garden, enjoy light refreshments and bird watch or sit on the shady porch with some ice tea.
