Steve Warner offers Songwriting/Nature Camp
Nature has been the inspiration for thousands of songs. Just think of how many songs reference the sun and moon! Award-winning Shepherdstown songwriter, Steve Warner, will help kids tap into their creativity in the beautiful surroundings at Cool Spring near Charles Town.
“The Hills Are Alive With Song” will be be offered weeks of July 28 and Aug. 4 from 1 – 4 p.m. as part of Craftwork’s Camp Cool Spring summer programming. Warner’s camps are for kids 8 – 13.
Kids will learn about song form, structure, lyric and melody in way that will empower them to write something special. Campers do not need any prior music skill or knowledge, just a willingness to express their ideas. Those who play instruments or sing are encouraged to share their talents with the class. Campers will explore types of songs and what makes certain ones so memorable. Participants will also have an opportunity to sample instruments for accompanimentguitar, ukelele, mandolin, even a hand drum.
Campers will work as a team to write a song as a group and perform it for parents and guests on the last day of camp. Each week will be somewhat tailored to the make up of the group and there will be plenty of time for one on one mentoring. Registration is available online at www.wvcraftworks.org.
