By Staff | Jul 7, 2014

Admiral Analog celebrated its official grand opening last Saturday with a special party for the community.

Andrew Barton, owner of the small record store said that though the store opened May 3rd, he wanted to take another opportunity to introduce his shop to the public after settling in over the last month.

Saturday’s event featured live music from local bands including: B&O Railroad, Y[Saints], and Laura Mae Socks.

“It was my most successful day yet,” Barton said of Saturday’s event.

Barton opened Admiral Analog in hopes of pursing a dream he’s had since age 14.

“I didn’t really have any particular expectations,” he said.

Though Barton is a resident of Hagerstown, Maryland, he said he felt Shepherdstown was the right location to open the retail venture.

“I felt like Shepherdstown was a much more open, understanding and welcoming community and a much better fit for what I wanted to do.” he said.

Barton said the shop has been well received over the last month, garnering some committed local regulars of all different ages and backgrounds.

The shop features used and new vinyl records, turntables, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes and Blu Ray discs, video games, shirts, stickers, patches, buttons.

Barton also buys and trades goods with the public.

Though hes a first time business owner Barton said he could foresee potential growth for Admiral Analog.

“Everybody’s been pretty enthusiastic about it,” he said.

Barton said he’d like to continue to host community events like Saturday’s and work in cooperation with live music venues around town.

Admiral Analog could play host to special record signing events featuring local performers and meet and greets for fans, Barton said.

In addition Barton said he plans to participate in the international event known as “Record Store Day,” next year.
