Gardener’s Group to meet

By Staff | Jul 24, 2014

Gardeners Exchange Group’s next meeting will cover Pruning for Structure and Health, with Shawn Walker, of Trees 101. It will take place July 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Morgan’s Grove Park

Trees 101 is an independent tree consulting and education service based in Shepherdstown, serving the Eastern Panhandle, nearby Virginia, Maryland and the Washington metro area. Its mission is to promote tree health by offering professional consulting services, and by empowering individuals and groups to understand trees and participate in their care.

Mr. Walker will cover the basics of pruning small and young trees with an emphasis on encouraging sound structural development and health. There will be a brief presentation followed by a demonstration. Meetings take place rain or shine!

GEG is an informal network of avid gardeners from Jefferson, Morgan and Berkeley counties and the nearby areas of Maryland and Virginia. Its purpose is to bring together people who share an interest in the practical, hands-on challenges and pleasures of gardening. Members are young and old; men and women; retired and working people; professional gardeners, master gardeners and beginners. The gardening interests of GEG members are just as diverse: wildflowers to roses, fruit trees to mushrooms, water gardening to Xeriscaping.

GEG members share information, resources, expertise, labor, plants, produce and experiences through monthly meetings, garden visits, and special events. We meet at 9:30 a.m., usually on the third Saturday of the month, April through October. They welcome new members.
