Opequon Creek cleanup

By Staff | Aug 1, 2014

The Opequon Creek Project Team, a local, Eastern Panhandle Watershed Group, coordinated another successful, annual cleanup of the Opequon Creek. Last Saturday morning, 10 volunteers met at the Rt. 45 bridge and began their cleanup of the creek to a point just downstream of the old Myers Bridge.

A total of four canoes and two flat bottom boats made the six mile the journey. Thanks to the WV DEP for their logistics support without which this cleanup would not be as easily accomplished. The DEP provided trash bags, two flat bottom boats and two canoes as well as a dumpster. They will haul the trash away to a local landfill and recycle the tires. At the end of day the group removed 69 tires and 21 bags of trash.
