The first in a series of quality independent and major release films, to raise money for area animal rescue groups.

Each screening will donate all proceeds after expenses to a different area animal rescue group.

The first in this series will be the critically acclaimed documentary ‘Life Itself,’ (R rated, 120 minutes) on the life and work of the late film critic Roger Ebert, to be shown at The Shepherdstown Opera House, located 131 West German St., on Sunday, Sept. 7. Doors Open at 3 p.m. and this screenings beneficiary rescue group, The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County, in Kearneysville, West Virginia, will give a brief presentation on their work and goals, with Life Itself, being shown immediately afterwards.

Advance Tickets are $8 dollars and are available at The Good Shop, located at 123 East German Street, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Wednesday through Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m. Call 304- 876-8007 for more info.

Gina Franklyn, the owner of The Good Shop, has been personally rescuing many homeless, abused and neglected horses and dogs for the past 15 years and is an avid film fan. This seemed like a perfect combination of two of her passions, helping animals in need and the art of film.
