American Craft Week celebrated

By Staff | Sep 22, 2014

In celebration of American Craft Week, Oct. 4-11, Craftworks, The Over the Mountain Studio Tour and Jefferson Arts Council join forces to offer a smorgasbord of hands-on craft activities as part of this week-long national celebration of makers and making. Visit Craftworks Saturday, Oct. 4 through Saturday, Oct. 11 to join in the celebration and get your hands into something new. All ages and abilities are welcome, and all activities are free. Donations are accepted to cover cost of materials as appropriate.

Highlights include Tree Basket Weaving with Anne Bowers, Letterboxing and letterbox stamp making with the Awesome Art Girls, Yarn Bombing with Yarnability, Gourd Art with Barbara Acker, Colored Pencil drawing with Tara Bell, a ceramic pit firing with Annette Verna and Joy Bridy, an Environmental Public Art Project with Aaron Treher, Nest Sculpting with Annie Cropper, a Collage Potluck with Rebecca Jones, fire pit Drum Circle with Tracy Seffers and an evening Art Walk and Reception hosted by Jefferson Arts Council.

The Art Walk and Reception for the closing of American Craft Week will be Oct. 11, 5-8 p.m., and will start with a guided tour of the outdoor artworks on Craftworks’ trails, led by Linda Case, Craftworks founder and director. The tour will include ‘Thoroughfare’ by Annie Cropper (installed early summer), Craftworks Resident Artist Aaron Treher’s in-process installation, and the newest installations created throughout the week as part of American Craft Week. A Fire Circle reception will take place after the walking tour, including creative sweet and savory versions of smores for young and old, hot cider, and an invitation to join in the Craftworks Drum Circle.
