Democratic headquarters opens in Shepherdstown
The Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee, in conjunction with the Jefferson County Democratic Association and the Organization of Democratic Women hosted a grand opening for their a new election headquarters last Thursday, Sept. 11.
West Virginia Senate Majority Leader John Unger officiated the ribbon cutting and served as featured guest.
Unger offered remarks following the ribbon cutting in which he thanked the local community for its support and looked ahead with confidence at an upcoming election cycle.
“I really believe that this is the best slate of candidates that the Democrats have ever had.” he said.
“We’re up against a big offense.”
“It’s not just the local Republican party… Big money is rolling in here.”
Also in attendance were Delegates Stephen Skinner and Tiffany Lawrence, Sheriff Pete Dougherty, County Commissioners Patsy Noland and Dale Manuel, Magistrate Bill Senseney, County Commission candidate Ronda Lehman, as well as many local democrats.
The headquarters will be manned by Nick Casey campaign staffer, Zach Ward. Leigh Koonce, Middleway Representative for the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee explained Ward’s roll.
“He will be working on general get out the vote measures, answering questions about the various candidates, and organizing volunteers who want to help elect Democrats.” he said.
The new headquarters is already set to play host to a few upcoming events.
A voter registration drive will be held on “National Voter Registration Day,” Sept. 23. Volunteers will be registering voters at the headquarters and various locations around Shepherdstown.
A “Students’ Night” event is also planned for Oct. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. Local students are encouraged to stop by the new office and meet Democratic candidates.
The headquarters are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
