Taste of Home comes back to Jefferson County

The annual Taste of Home Cooking Show returns to the Ranson Civic Center on Thursday, Oct. 30 with doors opening at 4 p.m. for the 6:30 official show. The Journal, sponsoring the event, announces that tickets are on sale at both the Martinsburg and Charles Town Martin’s grocery stores as well as The Journal office, Orsini’s Appliances Sale and Service at 704 Winchester Avenue in Martinsburg and 805 N. Mildred St. in Ranson and at Parsons Kia at 2525 Valley Ave. in Winchester. In addition, Valley Health/Winchester Medical Center is also a major sponsor of this exciting event but is not selling tickets.

Counter Top Solutions,10228 Governor Lane, Williamsport, Maryland is providing the kitchen for the show. Cooking in that kitchen will be Taste of Home culinary specialist Michelle “Red” Roberts, who is looking forward to a rowdy, fun crowd!

The perfect recipe for creating new memories with loved ones includes good friends, good conversation and, of course, great food. As home cooks across the country head back to the kitchen to cook up fall’s flavorful dishes, the Taste of Home Cooking School is preparing to share recipes that are certain to delight. Roberts will demonstrate some of these tasty dishes during the show.

Vendors will be set up on the Civic Center as well, to provide gift-buying opportunities for attendees. There are several returning vendors as well as many new ones. Come visit the booths of Social Graces Ballroom, Nutrimost, Scentsy, America’s Best Contacts/Eyeglasses, Snyder Bailey Real Estate, Eastern Panhandle Safe Community Program, Pampered Chef, Bath Fitters, Tupperware, Personal Reflections Day Spa, Boresha, Blue Ridge Community & Technical College, Appalachian Spices & Gifts, Sweet Inspirations/Classic Chocolates, Tastefully Simple, Paparazzi Jewelery, Thirty-One Gifts, Jefferson Estate Jewelers, Shenandoah Community Health, Community Alternative To Violence, Counter Top Solutions, D & M DJ Service and more.

A Taste of Home show would not be complete without many great give-aways! Once again, Orsini’s Appliances will donate the grand prize, a Maytag washer valued at $629. Additional prizes omc;ide gift certificates from multiple businesses, floral arrangements and bags of groceries, just to name a few.

Judy Gelestor, ad manager for The Journal, shared, “We’re excited for the event to return to the Ranson Civic Center this year, as the assistance and hospitality displayed by the staff last year was unbelievable, plus the attendees said they appreciated all of the extra room to visit with the vendors.”

She went on to say, “We’re also very fortunate to have such generous businesses in the area. Orsini’s Appliances is giving away a $629 Maytag washer to a lucky person, this is such a great reflection of that generosity. The entire business community has been extremely accommodating by supplying us with such a nice selection of door prizes.”

Attendees will receive an orange canvas gift bag that includes two Taste of Home Cooking School magazines, coupons and numerous goodies from participating national food companies as well as local businesses. In addition, each ticket holder will receive a registration form to win more than 75 door prizes, including the grand prize. Only ticket holders can be a part of this event so residents are encouraged to purchase tickets now. Cost of a ticket is only $12.

For those in the Berkeley County area who wish to take advantage, the Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority will offer a round-trip bus ticket to the show for only $5. Ticket bus passes may be purchased by visiting or calling The Journal at 207 W. King Street in Martinsburg, or call 304-263-8931, ext. 110.

The Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority has partnered with The Journal to provide a bus to depart the Martinsburg Kmart on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 4:15 p.m. and take passengers to the cooking school to enjoy the event. The bus will depart the Ranson Civic Center after the show is over (approximately 9 pm) to transport passengers back to the Martinsburg Kmart.

Only ticketed passengers will be able to ride the bus, therefore, the rider pass must be purchased in advance and shown to the bus driver upon arrival. No tickets will be available in the parking lot or on the bus. Bus riders need to sure to purchase their Taste of Home Cooking School tickets for $12 separately at one of the sponsor locations.

Seating is limited so please purchase tickets early and plan to arrive at the K-Mart by 4 p.m..
