Speak prorgam Dec. 9

By Staff | Dec 5, 2014

The fourth Shepherdstown Speak Story Series concert will feature Diane Macklin of Baltimore. Macklin has delighted audiences for over 15 years, telling tales seasoned with rhythm, sounds and movement. Her approach to telling stories is “dynamic” (The Washington Post) and engaging for all ages. She has performed from Massachusetts to California for venues such as the National Air and Space Museum, Discovery Theatre, Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park, FUNDA/Rhode Island Storytelling Festival, Wolf Trap’s Theatre-in-the-Woods and the National Storytelling Festival’s Exchange Place. Her motto for living and working is “Making a Difference, One Story at a Time.”

She uses music as part of her storytelling, playing the kalimba to open and close stories and small percussion instruments in the process of telling some stories. Her telling of traditional folktales includes themes of respecting mother nature and the importance of food.

Speak will take place on Tuesday Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall (new location for this show only). Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at Four Seasons Books, at www.speakwv.org, or reserved at 304-886-9481. Questions? info@speakwv.org . Speak will donate 10% of ticket sales from this concert to the Ellsworth family fund.
