Bird Walk at Harpers Ferry
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a winter bird walk in Harpers Ferry on Wednesday, Feb. 25. There is no fee and anyone with an interest
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged but not required. To register, go to the PVAS website at www.potomacaudubon.org.
The walk will involve about 4 miles of level walking along the Canal towpath.
Participants should plan to meet at 8:00 a.m. at John Brown’s Fort in Harpers Ferry National Park. Parking may be available along Potomac Street near the train station.
From there, participants will take the footbridge over the Potomac River and walk about two miles northwest along the C&O Canal towpath and back. Species likely to be sighted include raptors, waterfowl, and other birds that overwinter in this area.
Participants should bring water and dress appropriately for the prevailing weather conditions. The Society will provide binoculars for those who do not have their own.
The walk may be canceled in the event of heavy weather.
