Harmony Healing Arts Center hosting workshop

By Staff | Feb 27, 2015

Holly Williford, a writer and yoga teacher in Berkeley and Jefferson counties, will host a donation-based workshop-A Journey Inward: Yoga and Journaling – Friday, March 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Harmony Healing Arts Center, 211 E. New Street, Shepherdstown.

Yoga and journaling are both ways to travel inward to explore the most important thing one will ever discover: who one really is. Yoga in itself is by definition the uniting of the inner self with outward actions, but first one needs to find out who they truly are to do so. This workshop will be divided into three parts: a guided meditation, gentle movements (asana) and guided writing.

The opening meditation will help get into the mindset of exploration. It will be followed with yoga movements that encourage pulling energy and thoughts inward. The movements will be suited for those who have never experienced yoga as well as for advanced practitioners. All levels welcomed.

Following the physical yoga practice, it’ll be time to get writing. There will be thought-provoking questions based on yogic philosophies that guide one through a journey inward, but feel free to journey away from the prompts. As with all writing of this nature, there is no right or wrong answer, even no answer is fine, so do not be intimidated by having little to no experience writing.

In conclusion, a final relaxation to allow the thoughts of experience truly seep into the mind and body will take place. There will be an option to share what was written and/or experienced during the workshop.

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement. Bring a pen and paper/notebook. Do not forget to bring an open mind as well! Writing surfaces, chairs, cushions, mats and all other tools will be provided.

Holly Williford, a writer and yoga teacher, approaches yoga in a way that adapts the pose to the student rather than the other way around.
