First Friday Coffeehouse features Canadian duo

By Staff | Mar 27, 2015

The April 3 First Friday Coffeehouse will feature Canadians Graydon James and Laura Spink from the acclaimed folk-roots band The Young Novelists. The event is held at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45 between Shepherdstown and Martinsburg. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up at 7 p.m. All open mic participants should be there early to get a slot to perform at one of the area`s premier listening rooms. Up to eight performers can show off their talents during the hour preceding the feature act.

As a duo and with their band, Graydon James and Laura Spink have played festivals from Mariposa Folk Festival to the Halifax Urban Folk festival, won the Galaxie Rising Star Award (2010), and were twice runners-up for the Colleen Peterson Songwriting award (2013 and 2014). Since their first shows in August 2009 they have criss-crossed the Maritimes, traveled western Canada as part of VIA Rail’s On-board Entertainment Program, and toured the Midwest and Eastern States. Their songs combine precise arrangements with layers of rich harmonies, capturing a classic combination of roots-inflected warmth and spacious dynamics. They are releasing a new full-length album, titled Made Us Strangers, in April 2015. For more information please visit www.theyoungnovelists.com.
