Eidolon hike set

By Staff | Apr 13, 2015

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a general nature hike at the Eidolon Nature Preserve in Morgan County on Sunday, April 19.

The hike is part of this year’s Morgan County Redbud Festival.

It will begin at 1 p.m. and last until about 3:00 p.m. It will be led by Master Naturalists Clark Dixon and Susan Jones.

The hike will be free and open to anyone with an interest. Children will be welcome. No pre-registration will be required.

The hike will focus on signs of spring. The Eidolon property, which is 354 acres in size, includes some impressive stands of redbuds and many different kinds of wildflowers. Migrating warblers should be arriving around this time.

The Preserve is located at the top of Sideling Hill Mountain, on Orleans Road, southwest of Great Cacapon. Detailed directions can be found on the Society’s website at www.potomacaudubon.org.

Hike participants should plan to park along the shoulder on the south side of Orleans road across from the preserve gate, and meet the hike leaders at the gate.

Participants should wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, dress appropriately for prevailing weather conditions, and bring along water and bug spray.

The hike will take place in the event of light rain or showers but it will be cancelled if there are heavy rains or storms.
