Audubon plans apiary visit
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a visit to the Eversweet Apiaries in Kearneysville the afternoon of Sunday, May 3. The visit will begin at 1 p.m. and last about 1 hours.
It will be free and open to anyone with an interest. Children will be welcome. However pre-registration is required. Register on the PVAS website at www.potomacaudubon.org.
The visit will be a good opportunity to learn all about Honeybees, honey and beekeeping.
Specific topics that will be covered will include bee biology and the social organization of hives, problems honeybees face, different honey varieties, and tips to becoming a beekeeper.
The beginning of May is an excellent time for such an event because bees are very active at this time of year.
The visit will take place rain or shine. Participants should plan to meet at the Eversweet Apiaries facility; full directions can be found on the PVAS website.
