First Historic Shepherdstown Speakers Series Event set for April 23
Historic Shepherdstown will present “African American Experiences in Jefferson County,” the results of oral histories conducted by Shepherd University students during the spring semester of 2015. The event will take place on April 23, at 7 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Byrd Center for Legislative Studies. The talk will be preceded by a dessert reception at 6 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
Students taking Oral History from Dr. Keith Alexander have conducted interviews with Jefferson County citizens over the last several months. The topic grew out of a plan to develop a Shepherdstown Museum exhibit on the Red Sox, Shepherdstown’s African American baseball team of the 1930’s to 1960’s. As the interviews were conducted, the topic expanded to cover Jefferson County with the invaluable help of the Jefferson County Black History Preservation Society.
The auditorium is located on King Street on the Shepherd University Campus.
