By Staff | Apr 20, 2015

Shepherd University’s Friends of Music announced the 2014-2015 Friends Fellows awards at the annual holiday gala at the Frank Center on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014. Each Fellow received a $1,000 scholarship.

Music education majors selected to receive the scholarships were Rachel Bani, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; Sawyer Gaydon, Martinsburg; Adrielle Mills, Martinsburg; Patrick O’Grady, Frederick, Maryland. Music majors receiving awards were Melissa McKay, Monrovia, Maryland, and Walker Williams, Berkeley Springs. Music education major Alvaro Silva, Silver Spring, Maryland, received the Scott Beard and Alan Gibson Friends Fellow award.

The Friends of Music Fellowship Program was established in 2008 in partnership with the Department of Music to support music majors who demonstrate the highest standards of music excellence. Friends Fellows are selected through an application process and nominated by music faculty.

Students can use the cash awards to help with their studies or for other music-related activities. The Friends Fellowship program is possible because of community support. Community members interested in sponsoring a Friends Fellow or who wish to make a tax-deductible donation to the program should contact the Friends of Music at 304-876-5765 or friends@sufom.org.
