Shepherd student wins Common Reading essay contest
A Shepherd University graduate student is the winner of this year’s Common Reading Essay Contest. Teresa Cavagnaro, a master of arts in teaching student from Hedgesville, wrote the winning essay on the impact community service and volunteerism can have on health and hunger.
Cavagnaro won a $250 gift certificate to Shepherd’s Bookstore. She also won a matching $250 donation to the charity of her choice, the Berkeley County BackPack Program, which provides food for school children to take home. The donation will provide one student in need food for an entire year.
The Shepherd University Foundation provides support for both the Common Reading Program and Essay Contest.
