Jefferson High School ranked 3rd in state by U.S. News & World Report

Jefferson High School was ranked third in West Virginia schools. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at Jefferson High School is 29 percent. The student body is 50 percent female and 50 percent male, with a total minority enrollment of 18 percent. Jefferson High School is 1 of 2 high schools in Jefferson County Schools.

U.S. News & World Report (U.S. News) publishes the “Best High Schools” rankings to identify the top? performing high schools in the United States. These rankings are based on three aspects of school performance: (1) the performance of all students on state assessments in reading and mathematics; (2) the performance of disadvantaged student subgroups-defined as Black/African?American students, Hispanic/Latino students, and students who are eligible for free or reduced?price lunch or who are economically disadvantaged as determined by the state-on these assessments; (3) and the degree to which high schools prepare students for college by offering a college?level curriculum.

This 2015 version of the rankings, using data from the 201213 school year, is based on documentation provided by U.S. News about the 2014 methodological approach and adjusted as requested by U.S. News.
