Hike the C&O Canal towpath

Hike four miles from Harpers Ferry to Weverton Crossing with Trail and Town Alliance of Harpers Ferry and Bolivar. This hike will take participants from the upper town of Harpers Ferry across the Potomac River, following both the Appalachian Trail and the C&O Canal Towpath past river rapids, wetlands of the old Canal and an active railroad line. The hike is flat except at the beginning and end and is rated easy for those in moderate condition.

Meet at 3 p.m. at the Fillmore Street parking lot just behind the old school building and across Jackson Street from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in the upper town of Harpers Ferry. Hikers are expected to reach Weverton around 5 p.m., from where they will be shuttled back to Harpers Ferry, courtesy of River and Trail Outfitter. There is no charge for this hike.
