Harpers Ferry named tops by Yahoo

By Staff | Sep 11, 2015

The Jefferson County Convention & Visitors Bureau (Jefferson County CVB) is proud to release the latest tribute to Harpers Ferry of being named the top trip to take this fall.

“Nowhere is so much history draped over so much beauty” remarked Dennis Frye, Chief Historian, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Whether visitors are roaming the Civil War battlefields or walking the C & O Canal, it becomes apparent that they are in a unique setting. Often repeated is an iconic quote from Thomas Jefferson as he stood before the two rivers of the Potomac and Shenandoah “This scene is worth a voyage across the Atlantic.” Well, you no longer have to take a voyage to experience the adventure.

“It’s no surprise Harpers Ferry is ranked as one the best locations to visit in the country. Its rich history, amazing scenic beauty, charming shops and warm and engaging people make it clear why Harpers Ferry is a bucket list destination,” Commissioner of Tourism, Amy Shuler Goodwin said.

“I am so humbled to be the mayor of such a nationally and internationally recognizable town. It is so very humbling,” commented Greg Vaughn, mayor of Harpers Ferry.

“Harpers Ferry is a town for all seasons and fall is gorgeous for walking, hiking and biking while taking in the historic sights and delicious food. I assure you, visit us for your first time and it won’t be your last.” Annette Gavin, CEO of the Jefferson County CVB.

Recently the WV Division of Tourism released the Real Harpers Ferry vignette to showcase this magnificent gem of history and outdoor recreation.
