League observes Voter Registration Day
In 2008, 6 million Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. In 2015, The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County is helping make sure that no one is left out.
On Sept. 22, volunteers, celebrities and organizations from all over the country will “hit the streets” for National Voter Registration Day. This single day of coordinated ?eld, technology and media efforts will create pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities–reaching tens of thousands of voters who could not reached otherwise.
For the past few years, the Jefferson County League of Women Voters has organized voter registration drives on Voter Registration Day. This year is no exception. Tina Burns will spearhead a drive at the Shenandoah Community Health Center in Martinsburg, and Carolyn Rodis is organizing League volunteers in Shepherdstown. If enough volunteers come forward, the League will register voters in other locations.
