Women for Shepherd hosting gourmet cooking demo, meal
he Women for Shepherd University, in conjunction with the Shepherd University Foundation, is hosting An Evening with Chef Brad Spates on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Historic McFarland House, 409 South Queen St., Martinsburg.
The program will feature a cooking demonstration and a holiday-themed meal with a modern, Mid-Atlantic flavor that will include a ginger crisp appetizer with melted brie and candied cranberries, an entre of Chesapeake chicken stuffed with crabmeat with cashew parmesan risotto and roasted asparagus, and a dessert of baked hot chocolate with vanilla bean whipped cream.
Spates, a Harpers Ferry native, is the executive chef at the McFarland House. He is a former Iron Chef winner and Top Chef competitor who studied at the Culinary Institute of America and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.
