‘Better off Dead’ to perform at Shepherdstown Opera House

By Staff | Nov 20, 2015

Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Tribute band Better off Dead brings their inspired and energetic take on the Dead/Jerry canon to Sheperdstown, Saturday Nov. 21 for a night that promises to continue the hot start of this Maryland based tribute act.

The polished quintet will again feature Jess Lake (John K Band, DC Mystery Cats) on pristine and powerful vocals as they re-imagine and explore the songs performed by the Dead or Garcia in one form or another.

Already performing regularly in Baltimore at the legendary 8×10 and in DC at Gypsy Sallys, BOD seeks to expand the perimeter and bring their fresh and uplifting take on the music as far and wide as they can. In their first two years the band has covered more than 200 songs and every setlist is unique and laden with bust-outs and first time plays.

Each member of the band provides something incredibly true to the spirit of the original, be it Rex Wilkes’ Garcia-esque vocals, Alex DiPietros soaring lead guitar, John Butte’s Bob Weir vocals and Phil Lesh-ian bass, Andrew Ellinghauss two drummers-in-one rhythmic kaleidoscope, or Will Layman’s raging keyboards filling the room through his vintage Leslie cabinet. The band projects a sound so rich and so nimbly played that audiences are immersed in a spirited dance groove all night long.
