First Friday Coffeehouse to feature John Lilly

By Staff | Dec 4, 2015

First Friday Coffeehouse will feature John Lilly, one of West Virginia’s most talented performing songwriters on Dec. 4. The venue is located at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45. Doors open for social time and sign-up at 7 p.m.. The feature will be preceded by a one hour-open mic where performers have an opportunity to show their stuff in one of the area`s premier listening rooms.

The ever-popular Lilly is making a return engagement. A resident of Charleston, he frequents the area and is known for his role as Master of Ceremonies for Shepherd University’s Appalachian Festival. He is an accomplished musician (guitar, mandolin), singer, yodeler and an award-winning writer. His latest CD, Thinking About the Weather, is his seventh release.

John Lilly’s brand of folk fused with country and Americana is a sure crowd pleaser. He’s the only guy I can possibly imagine could write a song about his pocketknife (“This Old Knife”) and actually make a very compelling tune out of it. Lilly is highly respected amongst folk, country and old-time musicians all across West Virginia, and when you see his incredibly confident, comfortable and easy style of live performance, it’s not difficult to see why.–Dr. Tim, On-line Entertainment Guide

First Friday is well-known for musical excellence and an attentive audience. Performers representing a wide variety of roots genres come from all over the region and the United States. They perform in a candle-lit atmosphere with an excellent sound system and engineer. Several artists have commented that the venue is one of the best they have played at and an excellent opportunity for showcasing their talents.

First Friday Coffeehouse is a not-for-profit venture in partnership with Trinity United Methodist Church in Martinsburg. All proceeds go to feature artists and to help pay operating expenses. Once again First Friday is supporting Operation Christmas Teen and ask patrons to bring new, unwrapped gift suitable for needy teens in the area. Gift cards for department stores work great.

Enjoy a great evening of music and fellowship. Snacks and refreshments served. Trinity Orchard House is located at 4599 Shepherdstown Road, Martinsburg. A $10 donation per person is requested. For more information, contact Steve Warner at 304-676-4422.
