Shepherd sponsors TubaChristmas Dec. 19
Shepherd University is hosting its fifth annual TubaChristmas on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. on the steps of McMurran Hall. Tuba and euphonium players are invited to perform in the concert, which is free and open to the public. Musician registration begins at 10 a.m. and rehearsal begins at 10:30 a.m. in Reynolds Hall. Musicians pay a $10 registration fee, which includes a 2015 TubaChristmas button.
“I’m thrilled that Shepherd is hosting the fifth annual TubaChristmas this year,” said Dr. Keith Alexander, assistant professor of history and co-organizer of TubaChristmas. “It’s been a terrific event in years past and has quickly established itself as part of the town’s Christmas scene.”
Dr. Kathleen Corpus, chair of the Department of Business Administration/Family and Consumer Sciences and event co-organizer, said this is just one of many TubaChristmas concerts that take place across the country and internationally. TubaChristmas was started by the Harvey Phillips Foundation, which encourages the enjoyment of music specifically on the low brass instruments-the tuba and euphonium.
“Musicians from as far away as Texas, Tennessee, and Ohio have joined in with the Shepherdstown group,” Corpus said. “About 40 musicians are anticipated this year, and it is sure to be a special event for all to enjoy.”
