New Chief in town
Shepherdstown police officer, Mike King was sworn in as the new Chief of Police on Tuesday evening at the Town Council meeting.
Chief King has been with the Shepherdstown police department for five years and is replacing former chief, Dave Ransom who resigned his position in May of 2015.
In addition to his hands-on patrol duties, King will handle the administrative oversight for three patrol officers (two of which were newly hired) and one corporal.
Working in 12-hour shifts, the duty officers will assist Shepherd University police and state and county officers as needed.
“Shepherdstown is a very unique area,” said Chief King. “We (police department) receive a lot of support from the community and our goal is to continue to foster that relationship and build on it in the future.”
