Shepherdstown artists included in 2016 Cumberland Valley Artists Exhibition

Four Shepherdstown artists are among those featured in the 2016 Cumberland Valley Artists Exhibition at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland. Out of 324 entries, 68 were selected for inclusion in this year’s exhibition. Works from Joan Bontempo, Rebecca Jones, Wendy Moreland and Ralph Scorza were juried into the exhibit. The 2016 Cumberland Valley Artists Exhibition runs concurrently with the 2016 Cumberland Valley Photographic Salon from Jan. 24 through April 10. The opening reception and awards ceremony for both exhibits will be held Sunday, Jan. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. with the snow date on Sunday, Jan. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. Jurors for the CVAE were Foon Sham, professor of Art at the University of Maryland, College Park and Stephen Wicks, the Barbara W. and Bernard E. Bernstein Curator at the Knoxville Museum of Art.

Established in 1931 and dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting works of art for the people of Washington County and citizens from the four-state region, The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Admission to the museum is free and its collection includes over 6,500 works of art. The WCMFA has an enduring commitment to arts education and to the support of regional artists. The museum regularly offers studio art courses, art historical lectures, concerts, and exhibitions from its permanent collection and traveling shows. The WCMFA is funded through support from museum membership and annual fund donations by the public, grants from the business and corporate communities, and support from Washington County, the City of Hagerstown, private foundations and the Maryland State Arts Council. It is located at 401 Museum Drive in Hagerstown.
