Piano Room students attend Shepherd concert

By Staff | Feb 12, 2016

Piano students at The Piano Room in Shenandoah Junction recently attended the Jan. 28 Music Salon Series, sponsored by Jefferson Security Bank, in the Frank Center’s W. H. Shipley Recital Hall. The concert featured “Three’s Company,” an evening of keyboard trios featuring Shepherd faculty pianists Dr. Scott Beard, Dr. Yu-Hsuan Liao and Dr. Laura Renninger.

Keyboard trios, music for six hands at one piano, have been a part of the piano ensemble repertoire for more than 200 years. Beard, Liao and Renninger presented a diverse program of works ranging from W. F. E. Bach and Antonius Fodor, to transcriptions by Czerny of “The Marriage of Figaro,” and original works by Cornelius Gurlitt, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and contemporary German composer Armin Fuchs.

Piano Room owner and instructor Janet Marsceau shared that she wanted her students to be exposed to advanced piano playing.

“I have three students who played a Christmas trio at our recital. I thought they would especially enjoy the performance,” Marsceau said.

In addition to enjoying the performance at the university, the piano students, along with some parents, visited Mi Degollado for a Mexican meal as part of their field trip.

Marsceau hopes to bring more students to observe piano concerts at Shepherd.

Providing lessons to beginning and intermediate students, Marsceau’s Piano Room is currently accepting students. She can be reached at 304-728-3963.
