Jazz festival featured all levels of talented musicians

Shepherd University’s Department of Music hosted the Shepherd Jazz Festival on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The university welcomed local and regional high school and middle school bands who performed and worked with guest clinicians throughout the day.
Among the schools performing were Shepherdstown Middle School, whose jazz band has consistently earned high honors at local festivals, and Jefferson High School’s two jazz groups.
Several jazz ensembles from Shepherd performed as well.
The festival featured master classes and clinics with guest faculty trumpeter Mike Kamuf, pianist Brian Dean, and bassist Kevin Pace. There will also be a jam session with Shepherd University students.

The Shepherd University Jazz Ensemble has performed throughout the East Coast and Europe.
The university plays host to the annual festival each year.
