League receives donation
The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County expresses its appreciation to Lyn Widmyer for a generous donation to support LWVJC’s community outreach efforts. The former county commissioner has been a member of the Jefferson County League of Women Voters for over 30 years.
“I know from my three decades as a community activist how important it is to provide information to the public about key issues and topics. I am very proud that the LWV has sponsored forums on everything from planning to the county budget to education issues. I hope this donation helps to cover the costs associated with community outreach.”
Last year, in addition to two voter registration drives, the LWV sponsored community forums on the county budget process, the proposed county school levy, national health care funding options and the role of political contributions in elections. More than 75 people attended a League breakfast to hear state legislators review and discuss key issues facing West Virginia.
This year’s priorities for the Jefferson County League of Women Voters include: Member engagement with member socials; encouraging voter participation; studying the county budget and how to support growth; drawing attention to water resource issues: protection, conservation, utilization; reaching consensus on the issue of money in politics; supporting adequate, predictable, and sustainable library funding; and expanding the Observer Program.
The League has long been an active champion of access and openness in government.
