Youth Art Exhibit at Fire Hall Gallery

By Staff | Mar 4, 2016

Jefferson Arts Council (JAC) is excited to announce the Third Annual Youth Art Month Exhibit in Charles Town’s Fire Hall Gallery running March 6-29.

The third annual Youth Art Month Exhibit includes work from public schools in Jefferson County.

Coordinated by Sam Nelson, art educator at Washington High School and Judy Chesley, art educator at South Jefferson Elementary School, the exhibit focuses on two-dimensional works, K-12. The catered reception will be March 13, 2-4 p.m.

“Each year, grades K-12 are featured in the show and all Jefferson County public school art educators are invited to provide four pieces for display. The show provides a wonderful way for us to showcase the talented young artists in our schools and share our gifts with the community,” said Chesley.

The Fire Hall Gallery is located in Downtown Charles Town, inside the Visitor’s Center at 108 N. George St. The Gallery is shared with the Washington Street Artists’ Cooperative, and open seven days a week, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Still seats at wine-tasting event

Tickets are still available for the Shepherdstown Rotary Club’s annual wine-tasting dinner, which is being held on Friday, March 18. The event will be held at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown starting at 6:30 p.m. Members of the community are welcome to attend.

The event, now in its 15th year, includes an elegant multi-course dinner featuring wines carefully chosen to compliment each course.

The Inn’s proprietors, Christian and David Asam, will preside over the dinner, explaining the history and characteristics of the various wines served. The wines will come from the Inn’s award-winning wine list, which contains over 600 different labels. The wines served, which are always chosen to be affordably priced, will be available for purchase by the bottle or case.

Admission is $70 per person; $20 of that amount will be tax-deductible. All proceeds from the sale of dinner tickets and wine purchases will be used to help fund Shepherdstown Rotary Club programs that benefit children and young adults.

Dress for the event will be business formal, with black tie optional.

Go to the Shepherdstown Rotary Club website at www.shepherdstownrotary.org for full details and a registration form. Or contact Peter Smith at pvsmith@frontiernet.net or 304-876-1139.

The deadline for reserving seats is March 14.
