Book signing and more at Four Seasons

By Staff | Mar 18, 2016

Local author, Susan Benjamin, will host a book signing for her newest book, “Sweet as Sin: The Unwrapped Story of How Candy Became America’s Favorite Pleasure.”

“The book covers the history of candy from the first ever through the late 1950s, and what better way to celebrate than try some of the candies in the book?” shared Benjamin.

Benjamin is a food historian and owner of True Treats Historic Candy with stores in Harpers Ferry and Fredrick, Maryland. Her Harpers Ferry store was listed as one of the 50 best “Sweet Spots” in the U.S. by Food Network Magazine. The book is an extension of the store, telling the backstory of everything from the first chewing gum to Milton Hershey.

Benjamin’s book tour will take her to the Smithsonian Museum of American History; appearances on NPR’s Roundtable and other programs; hundreds of ABC news radio shows; a segment on Public Radio’s show, “The Splendid Table;” a talk covered by C-Span; and libraries, TV and radio shows across the country.

But, according to Benjamin, “The most important appearance for me will be the one in Shepherdstown. The people here, and in Harpers Ferry, are my neighbors and friends. I want to share the sweets and stories with everyone I can.”

The signing will be held at The Four Seasons Bookstore between 3 and 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
