Day Care sets new date for wine auction

By Staff | Mar 18, 2016

Shepherdstown Day Care will hold its 9th annual Wine Auction at the Bavarian Inn on Saturday, April 9, at 6 p.m. This is a new date for the event, which was originally scheduled for March 19.

The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants and wine and Scotch tastings. The auction will start promptly at 7 p.m., and will feature award-winning wines from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and New Zealand, as well as American wines from California, Oregon, Washington state and Virginia. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on vacation weeks at the Simpson Bay Beach Resort in St. Maarten, or at the Islander Resort in Ocean Beach, North Carolina; an overnight stay at the Mimslyn Inn in Luray, Virginia, a gourmet dinner with wine pairings at the Bavarian Inn and a limo trip for six to area wineries, with a VIP tour and tastings.

The event will feature a 100-bottle “Cork Pull,” which will offer auction guest chances to win bottles of wine ranging from “weeknight wines” to prized vintages. Corks are $20 each.

“We are excited that an SDC ‘alumnus,’ Jeremy Zimmerman, Stone Tower Wineries manager, will be master of ceremonies,” said SDC board vice president Dale Walter. “We have worked closely with Bavarian Inn manager David Asam to make our 9th annual wine auction the best one yet,” she added.

“This is an important fundraiser for us,” said Patty Martineau board president. “SDC is the only childcare center in the Panhandle that offers a sliding scale tuition fee based on family income. More than half of our children receive the state’s tuition subsidy for low income children. Tuition payments that we receive do not fully cover operational costs, and we depend on revenue from events.”

Tickets to the Wine Auction are $45 per person in advance, or $55 per person at the door. For reservations and more information, call the center 304 876-6923.
