Shepherd to host National Geographic Giant Map of Africa
Shepherd University’s School of Business and Social Sciences is hosting National Geographic’s Giant Map of Africa Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15. National Geographic giant maps allow students of all ages to learn about a continent by “traveling” across it and participating in educational games and activities.
The 26 foot by 35 foot map of Africa comes with activities that include placing photo cards of African elephants, mountain gorillas, meerkats, and other animals on their correct habitat, playing Simon Says while exploring the geography and learning mapping skills to identify basic features like mountains, rivers and deserts.
The map will be in the Student Center Storer Ballroom Monday, April 11, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Tuesday, April 12, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The map moves to the Wellness Center Wednesday-Friday, April 13-15, where it will be on display from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
The map is free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome to participate. For more information, contact Dr. Ann Marie Legreid at 304-876-5332.
