3D Dash 5K race planned at Shepherd

By Staff | Apr 15, 2016

The second annual 3D Dash Stand Up Don’t Stand By 5K will take place at Shepherd University on Sunday, April 17, with registration/check in beginning at 9 a.m. on the Midway next to the Student Center on the East Campus.

The race is open to the campus community and the public and will include a 1K fun run/walk.

Shepherd University Counseling Services teams up with the Shenandoah Women’s Center to sponsor the race during Sexual Assault Awareness Month to raise money for the center and draw attention to the problem of interpersonal violence.

Last year the 3D Dash raised $2,100 for the women’s center. Organizers have set a goal of beating that number this year.

The 3D Dash takes place in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and caps off a campaign called 3D Thursdays where students hand out information every Thursday to raise awareness of all forms of interpersonal violence and to encourage those who witness it to intervene.

The three Ds stand for direct, distract and delegate.

Registration costs $15 for students, $20 for non-students, $10 for the 1K Fun Run, and $10 per runner on a team of 5-10 runners. Kids 5 and under run free.

Runners can register online or in person the day of the event. Registration cards are also available at Shepherd’s Health Center, Wellness Center, and Residence Life office.

Teams can participate in group categories, including Most Green, Best Group Theme, and Most School Spirit, for a chance to win a prize.

T-shirts will be given to the first 200 5K runners. The first 100 Fun Run participants will receive a water bottle filled with candy.
