Free summer housing available to students who enroll in summer school

By Staff | May 6, 2016

Shepherd University has expanded its popular free summer housing program to students at any college and university if they enroll in summer school.

Students who take a minimum of six credits in the summer terms can live in Printz Hall (double occupancy) at no cost for the housing.

Space is limited.

“Shepherd offered free housing last summer to Shepherd students in a pilot program,” said William E. “Bill” Sommers, vice president for enrollment management.

“We are building on that successful effort by expanding the offer to students at any college and university who would like earn credits during the summer to transfer back to their home university while sampling Shepherd’s classes, enjoying the ambiance of Shepherdstown, and living free of charge in Printz Hall, one of the newest and nicest apartment-style residence halls on campus.”

The free housing offer is available for the term in which the student is enrolled for at least six credits.

Printz Hall features apartment-style living, including kitchen, living room and bathroom facilities in each unit.

Students will be responsible for paying for their meals. The Fireside Bistro and Wellness Cafe operate throughout the summer, and the Dining Hall will be open on a periodic basis.

“Summer school provides students the opportunity to accelerate their time to graduation by earning credits,” said Sommers. “Summer school also is a great time for students to get back on track if they have fallen behind on credit hours.”

Shepherd’s offers three summer school sessions: Summer Session I, May 23-June 22; Summer Session II, July 5-Aug. 3; and Summer Session III, May 23-Aug. 3.

Students must be in good academic standing at their home university.
