Civil War Center offers Memorial Day event
Shepherd University’s George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War will commemorate Memorial Day by hosting a special event titled “West Virginians at War” on Monday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature historians, including several Shepherd students, representing soldiers from across three centuries holding firing and cooking demonstrations.
A wreath laying ceremony with a procession beginning at the center will take place at noon. From 2:30-4:30 p.m. the center will sponsor a guided walking tour of Locust Spring Hospital in Keedysville, Maryland, which was used as a field hospital after the Battle of Antietam.
