Penny Pincher at Visitor’s Center in town

By Staff | Jun 3, 2016

The Shepherdstown Visitor’s Center, located at 129 E. German St. is home to one of 35 Penny Pincher souvenir coin machines in the region. Elongated coins have been stretched and embossed with a design making them a souvenir collector’s staple since the Wold’s Columbian Expo in Chicago in 1893.

Visitors can have their pick from three coin designs in this machine. One coin features McMurran Hall, another has a Shepherd Rams head and the third coin recognizes the town as the oldest town in West Virginia.

Calhoun shares proceeds from the machine with the Shepherdstown Visitor’s Center.

Ed Calhoun, shown, is the owner of the Penny Pincher.
