Street Fest showcases up and coming local and regional musical acts

By Staff | Jun 10, 2016

Shepherdstown Street Fest presented by Title Sponsor Morgan Academy (www.morganacademywv.com), and Online Media Marketing Sponsor Go Blue Ridge Travel (www.goblueridgetravel.com), will host select up and coming local and regional bands as part of the day long festival.

The festival has two stages: the Main Stage which hosts touring national acts while the smaller, more intimate Library Stage showcases promising local and regional entertainers. The 2016 Library Stage festival acts are as follows:

The Speakeasy Boys: Performing at 1:15 p.m., started out as a group of local musicians who simply liked to get together and play music. Every Sunday, they would meet up and play bluegrass along the banks of the Potomac River near Packhorse Ford, located outside of Shepherdstown and at a nearby house dubbed “the Speakeasy” (hence the band’s name).

After about two years, they decided to start performing in front of an audience, instead of the usual barrel fire of barbeque chicken and fish. In 2003, they moved their jam to Ed’s Taproom, a local pub in Shepherdstown, where they played every other Tuesday night for nearly a year. Nowadays, they play a wide variety of venues, including pubs, clubs, theaters, festivals, parades, local events and private

parties.

Ginada Pinata: Performing at 3 p.m., taps the influences of jazz, funk, rock, fusion and blends it to create an organic vibe that entertains and excites audiences. Founded in Shepherdstown in 1998 and getting funkier all the time Pinata has constantly pushed for new sounds and feels. 2001 brought the release of “Talking to the Boss” which highlights the musicianship of the band. Over the years the Ginada Pinata has played many festivals and clubs including Opera House Live, Sunshine Daydream, The Barns of Wolftrap, 123 Pleasant St., The WV Wine and Arts Festival, weddings, events and countless music venues.

Ethereal Jive: Performing at 4:45 p.m., Ethereal Jive is fast becoming one of the regions most sought after bands with their powerful funk, and groove-able, dance-able sound. Their specialty is taking mainstream music and doing very creative interpretations that makes the music their own.The band members are highly trained and have paid their dues on the road. Ethereal Jives talent, and love of music are quickly evident in their performances.

A Faster Buffalo, Headliner: Performing at 6:30 p.m., has been spreading their infectious blend of Americana and Folk music throughout the region since the band’s inception in early 2013.

A Faster Buffalo’s unique sound is owed as much to their surroundings as it is to the diverse musicians who create it. Derived from a compilation of Swing, Rock-a-Billy, Folk, and Gypsy music, all delivered with a high energy and earnest performance. Currently in the studio recording their debut full-length record, the band aims to capture the passion and unpredictability of their raucous live shows.

A Faster Buffalo continue to evolve as a band, preserving timeless traditional music of the past, while infusing it with their own original material and touch.
