One person was killed Monday afternoon in a Jefferson County shooting, and police say 1 person involved in the incident has been arrested, with one suspect still on the loose.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty, the shooting took place at 2:07 p.m. in the Tuscawilla Hills neighborhood near the intersection of Tuscawilla and Lindsey drives.

Ryan Mumaw was shot while he was a passenger in a car near the basketball court at that location. According to the sheriff, the car was driven to the Locust Hills subdivision, in the area of Oakmont and Pebble Beach drives. Emergency responders came to the scene and transferred Mumaw to Jefferson Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:57 p.m., Dougherty said.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., Dougherty reported that a suspect, Rakeem Newman, 18, had been arrested and charged with first degree murder.

Three people were in the car, according to Dougherty. One of them, the juvenile driver, turned himself in at the Charles Town Police Department about half an hour later. The one other remains on the loose.

Anyone with information should call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department at 304-728-3205.
