Fall Festival bus trip Oct. 8

By Staff | Aug 19, 2016

Need to get away from the hot weather? Think autumn! Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Allegheny Mountains in south Pennsylvania with the Pack Horse Ford Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). Relax as we embark on a fall festival bus tour Saturday, Oct. 8.

The group will begin the day by paying homage to those who sacrificed their lives 15 years ago, on Sept. 11, 2001, where the plane of Flight 93 crashed in Stoystown, Pennsylvania. On that day, the U.S. came under attack when four commercial airliners were hijacked and used to strike targets on the ground. Nearly 3,000 people tragically lost their lives. Because of the actions of the 40 passengers and crew aboard Flight 93, the attack on the U.S. Capitol was thwarted.

Tour the visitor center, exhibit area and Memorial Plaza with the Wall of Names.

Next, the group will travel to the historical Omni Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, Pennsylvania, with breath-taking views. Enjoy a buffet luncheon in the beautiful 1796 Room. An additional treat during dessert will be a lively presentation of Bedford’s history. For more than 200 years, the resort has hosted many celebrities and presidents, including Thomas Jefferson.

The final destination will be the nearby National Museum of the American Coverlet. The museum showcases antique American woven coverlets, looms, weaving and spinning implements. Emjoy a guided tour with stunning exhibits. Attendees may bring a photo of their family’s heirloom coverlet and the museum will gladly evaluate it.

After touring the museum, one has the option of strolling one block to Bedford’s Fall Foliage Festival, offering crafts, art, entertainment and food or continuing to stroll the exhibits in the museum to see more.

Individual’s support of the chapter’s bus trips helps with charitable community work, which includes Christmas stockings for Veterans filled with personal items and awards for JROTC cadets, Good Citizen and local schools’ history essay contest.

This trip is limited to the first 50 paid reservations. Reservations are due by Thursday, Sept. 1.

Wear comfortable walking shoes. Snacks and drinks are allowed on the bus.

Enjoy this fun-filled day with family and friends for only $100 per person. The bus will leave Shepherdstown promptly at 7 a.m. and return about 5:30 p.m.
