First Friday Coffeehouse kicks off season

First Friday Coffeehouse will kick off its 11th season Sept. 2 with an expanded open mic and a feature set by local favorites Don Oehser and Laura First. The event is held at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45 mid-way between Shepherdstown and Martinsburg. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up at 7 p.m. All open mic participants should be there early to get a slot to perform at one of the area`s premier listening rooms.

Oehser and First have been performing their unique blend of genre-crossing music for audiences throughout the region for decades. Don is best known for his exquisite guitar work, equally adept at playing blues, jazz, country, folk and Celtic. He has performed with such greats as Catfish Hodge, J. B. Hutto, Paul Wiggins and Billy Hancock. Laura is an expressive vocalist with an extensive repertoire of classical/Medieval and Celtic ballads, jazz, show tunes and Appalachian songs. She has done several tours of the U.S. and France with lutist, Valerie Loomer and sings regularly with the Washington Chorus and The National Symphony.
