The Rotary Club of Shepherdstown has donated $1,639 to Horses With Hearts, a Martinsburg nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic riding for children and adults with disabilities.

The donation was made on Aug. 23, at the Club’s regular weekly meeting at Shepherdstown’s Bavarian Inn.

The club’s donation will be used to help construct fencing at Horses With Hearts’ 31-acre property, which is located off Files Cross Road.

The property was given to the organization by Martinsburg’s Trinity United Methodist Church just two years ago and it is still under development.

For example, about 12 acres still remain to be fenced at an estimated cost of about $30,000.

The organization is relying on donations and grants to complete this work and other projects.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can do so on the organization’s website at www.horseswithhearts.com. A $60 donation will finance one eight-foot section of fencing.

Horses With Hearts currently operates on a part-time, seasonal basis from spring through fall and serves about 40 individuals. The long-term goal is to add an indoor riding facility that will allow full-time, year-round operation and a significant expansion of service.
