Tour scheduled Oct. 1 of Martinsburg’s Urban Farm
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring a tour of Martinsburg’s first urban farm on Saturday, Oct. 1. The tour will begin at 9 a.m. and last about an hour. It will be led by Matt Denton, the farm’s owner.
It will be free and anyone with an interest will be welcome. Pre-registration is encouraged; register on the PVAS website at www.potomacaudubon.org.
The farm, called Herban Sprout, is located at 732 New York Avenue, at the corner with Buxton Street. Opened last spring, it concentrates on growing herbs, green and microgreens.
The centerpiece of the operation is an 18×18-foot greenhouse that operates on solar power and is completely off the grid.
For more information about Herban Sprout, visit its Facebook page. For more information about the tour, contact Krista Hawley at PVAS at 703-303-1026 or adultprograms@audubon.org.
