Body found in Shepherdstown identified

By Staff | Oct 14, 2016

The body of a missing 24-year-old man was identified after being found on the water’s edge in Shepherdstown on Monday, Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty said.

“His name is Dylan Beilke. He was a missing person from Berkeley County,” said Sheriff Pete Dougherty.

“The body was found by a sheriff deputy after a missing person report was filed after he did not come home from work Saturday.”

A search was prompted after authorities received the missing person report filed by Beilke’s family.

“The car was found by a citizen in Shepherdstown,” Dougherty said.

“The car wasn’t there at 10 p.m. when they went to bed, but it was there in the morning.

Shepherdstown (police department) investigated and found it was the car belonging to the missing person.”

The search culminated with a sheriff deputy discovering Beilke’s body near River Road in Shepherdstown, which was pulled from the river around 4:30 p.m.

“One of our (deputies) saw a body at the river’s edge,” Dougherty said.

“We had the family on scene and were able to get positive confirmation (of his identity).”

“It appears that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. We don’t believe there was any foul play involved,” Dougherty added.
