Shepherdstown holiday ornament now available
Historic Shepherdstown has created another ornament in its series of prominent Shepherdstown landmarks. The 2016 ornament features the Shepherdstown Library, formerly known as the Old Market House. Sales of the ornaments will raise funds for conservation of Shepherdstown Museum artifacts and other historic preservation efforts.
The elegant brass ornaments are boxed with information on the history of the Old Market House. The building has been put to many uses including a brief time when it served as both the town jail and the library. Today the little building with the eye on top is one of the first quirky Shepherdstown attractions to greet visitors.
The ornaments are on sale for $20 each. A few of the 2015 ornaments featuring McMurran Hall are still available for $20, or $35 for both 2015 and 2016 ornaments. They may be purchased through Historic Shepherdstown’s office at 129 E. German Street on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The office phone number and e-mail address are 304-876-0910 and info@historicshepherdstown.com.
The ornaments also are available at the Shepherd University Bookstore, the Four Seasons Bookstore and Hair Graphics. They will be on sale at the Shepherdstown Museum on weekends during Christmas in Shepherdstown.
Eleanor Finn, Historic Shepherdstown’s president, noted, “The 2015 McMurran ornaments were quite a hit. We hope 2016’s Shepherdstown Library with the wonderful tree in front will be just as popular. Last year’s sales netted over $1000 for our conservation and preservation projects.”
