T.A. Lowery Elementary School collects new toys for local families’ holiday cheer
School parents, faculty and staff have collected new toys for the holidays that have brought holiday cheer to 65 families and 110 children at T.A. Lowery Elementary School.
Each year, a notice is sent to parents, staff, business partners and members of the T.A. Lowery Elementary School community asking for toy donations that will help support families in need during the holiday season. Known as the Candy Cane Express, this program assists families attending T.A. Lowery Elementary School in pre-school through fifth grade.
“Each year we’re overwhelmed by the support of our parents, staff, business partners and community members. It’s a true privilege to be part of the generosity of this community. And thanks to everyone’s generosity, families will be able to provide gifts for their children over the holidays,” said Kristen Martin, principal at T.A. Lowery Elementary.
Bridget DeRonda, the school counselor and Barbara Scott, a pre-school aide spearheaded the initiative. Toys were collected from Nov. 1 through Dec. 2 at the school. Participating families were invited to select toys for their children.
“The Candy Cane Express has helped a number of families over the past 17 years. Each year provides us with the opportunity to help families bring joy to their holiday season,” said Bridget DeRonda, guidance counselor at T.A. Lowery Elementary.
